Tennessee High’s Mighty Viking Band was presented with the esteemed 2022/2023 Tennessee Bandmasters Sweepstakes Award at the 2024 Tennessee Music Education Association state conference in Nashville this past weekend. This accolade recognizes superior performance across both marching and concert band disciplines, underscoring the band's dedication to musical excellence.
The Tennessee Bandmasters Sweepstakes Award is presented to select bands that achieve the highest ratings—superior—in categories that include marching band and concert stage performance and sight reading. Out of numerous contenders across the state, only 33 bands (middle or high schools) have met the rigorous criteria to receive this prestigious award this year. The MVB received superior ratings with performances of their marching show “Voyage to Valhalla” and their stage performance of “The Light Eternal” and “Symphonic Dance, No. 3 “Fiesta.”
The Mighty Viking Band has continuously demonstrated a commitment to musical rigor and artistry. This recognition is a testament to the hard work and passion exhibited by the students and their instructors.
“This award not only honors our talented students and dedicated staff but also uplifts the entire Tennessee High School community,” said band director David Semones. “We are immensely proud of our band’s achievements and the exemplary level of musicianship they have maintained for many years.”
