Tuesday night, February 15, the Bristol Tennessee City Schools Girls’ Youth Basketball League wrapped up its inaugural season with a clinic and celebration hosted by the Tennessee High Lady Viking basketball team at Viking Hall. The night began with a short speech and Q and A session with King University Women’s Basketball Coach Michael Phelps. Coach Phelps shared some of his experiences in basketball as a player and coach with the girls and emphasized the importance of playing, working on your game, and having fun.

After a warmup session, the girls were split into groups and went through a series of stations, led by the Lady Viking players and coaching staff. These stations focused on fundamental aspects of the game including shooting, ball handling, passing, defense, and rebounding. After their stations, relay races and fun competitions were held, and everyone had a great time.

The night concluded with each girl receiving their league trophy and a brochure inviting them to this summer’s Lady Viking Basketball Camp, June 6-9, at Viking Hall from 3-6 pm daily. Approximately 60 girls participated in Tuesday night’s clinic, and all of the Bristol elementary schools were represented. The Lady Viking Basketball Program would like to thank everyone who helped make the first year of this program a tremendous success, and we are so excited for the future of girls’ basketball in Bristol.
