We are happy to announce a winner for the library-sponsored Black History STEAM essay competition: Lance Tudor.
We had a lot of great essays, which were evaluated based on the same guidelines that Eastman uses in their regional contest: documented sources, grammar, and uniqueness.
For his essay, Lance wrote about Daniel Williams, an African-American doctor who was one of the first doctors to successfully operate on the heart AND who successfully ran an interracial hospital in the mid-1800s. For his winning submission, Lance received a brand new Kindle.
A huge thank you to all of the students who shared essays about so many fantastic African-American icons! We wish everyone luck with the Eastman contest (Eastman finalists will be notified by Eastman later this month).
